EPCD (Engineering, Procurement & Construction Division) is focused on infrastructure projects that are tendered by Govt. bodies & undertakings, Industrial clusters, SEZs (Special Economic Zone). Such projects are funded either by ADB (Asian Development Bank) or JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) or WB (World Bank) or AMRUT (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation & Urban Transformation) or State Govt. catering to the sectors such as:

  • Mega city Development Mission
  • Infrastructure required for Smart cities & towns
  • Recycling of wastewater
  • River Restoration
  • Rehabilitation of Water Treatment Plant
  • Rehabilitation of Sewerage Projects

 Each of the above sector has its own design complexities and special features. The details are elaborated as below:

Comprehensive water supply projects are being implemented for the expanded Mega city limits. The scope and services include creating Under Ground reservoirs and Over Head Tanks with necessary pumping stations and distribution network and House Service Connections with smart metering. A case in study is a project under execution for Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) in Chennai city which comprises 50 LL Over Head Tank (the second largest capacity in Chennai) and distribution piping with DI pipe of 100 to 800 mm dia. for a length of 172 Kms and other associated systems.

To augment the available water sources the Board is developing new resources such as creation of lakes and water bodies. Currently EPCD is executing an augmentation project that comprises of 66 MLD water pumping station and 900 mm dia. DI pumping main through pumping station with Vertical turbine pumps for transporting water for a length of 17 Kms from a new storage lake. The scope also includes operation & maintenance. The various elements of the project involve:

Infrastructure development is complete only after implementing a thorough Under Ground Sewerage network with secondary level of sewage treatment. These projects comprise of collection of sewage from houses, followed by collection wells & pumping stations. The sewage so collected is finally treated in a sewage treatment plant. EPCD also undertakes operation & maintenance of these projects. A comprehensive UGSS project is under execution for Sattur, a town in south Tamilnadu. The various activities of this project involve:

  • Sewage Treatment Plant

Recycling of wastewater is the need of the hour for the conservation water. Turnkey sewage treatment plants based on SBR, MBR technologies are executed with tertiary treatment. These plants are fully automated and meet the latest pollution norms. The tertiary treatment is achieved through Ultra Filtration and Ozonisation for reuse in the technology parks, construction industry and hostel usage etc.  The scope also includes operation & maintenance. An interesting project for sewage treatment and recycling at IIT, Madras involves primary treatment with biological secondary treatment followed by a tertiary level of treatment. The various activities of this project involve:

  • Sewage pumping station
  • Sewage Treatment Plant with Sequential Batch reactor technology
  • Tertiary Treatment using Ultra Filtration, Ozonization etc.
  • Recycling of treated sewage for Construction industry and others
  • Operation & Maintenance

We execute projects for River Restoration, such as Cooum River or Ganga cleaning. The projects are funded by CRRT (Chennai River Restoration Trust) or NRGBA (National Ganga River Basin Authority) as the case may be. The raw sewage which used to be let out into the River is intercepted, collected and pumped to the sewage treatment plant for treatment to meet the Pollution Control Board norms. Also piping (gravity & pumping) and pumping station are provided along with the associated systems. The various activities of such projects involve:

Rehabilitation of water treatment plant is implemented to upgrade the capacity and treated water quality of the existing plant to meet the current drinking water standards. A project to rehabilitate the existing WTPs of capacity 24 MLD, 36 MLD & 48 MLD is under implementation at Trivandrum, Kerala. The KWA rehab project funded by JICA covers the following:

  • Ground Level Service Reservoir
  • Electrical substation

Sewerage revamping projects are under taken to upgrade the capacity and treated sewage quality of the existing plants to meet the new norms set by the state pollution control board. These projects involve rehabilitation of the existing civil structures, electro-mechanical equipments and also construction of new units and installation of new electro-mechanical equipments as per the project needs. An up-gradation project for TNSCB, Semmencheri commissioned and in operation includes the following:
